Here is a quick tonkatsu recipe for you.
Tonkatsu is basically a Japanese dish that involves deep-frying pork cuts that are coated with breadcrumbs. You need to try out this Tonkatsu recipe at home. Tonkatsu can be served with rice but it goes well with the tonkatsu sauce which is very easy to make at home.
Ingredients Of The Tonkatsu Recipe
- ¼ cabbage
- 1 long Persian cucumber (which is similar to the common cucumber)
- 1 tablespoon each of white toasted sesame seeds and black toasted sesame seeds
- 1½ tablespoons of tonkatsu sauce
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 3 cups sunflower oil
- 2 boneless pork loin chops (each piece is 100 grams)
- Sea salt/ kosher salt
- 1 large egg
Steps To Follow For Tonkatsu Recipe
Grate ¼ of a large cabbage into a bowl.
Peel 1 long Persian cucumber and chop it into fine pieces which are the size of the grated cucumber.
Separate the cabbage-cucumber mixture into 3 parts.
Grind 1 tablespoon each of white toasted sesame seeds and blacked toasted sesame seeds with a mortar and pestle into a coarse state. Do not grind the seeds into a fine texture.
Add tonkatsu sauce to the sesame seeds.
In another bowl, pour ½ cup of breadcrumbs and spray the breadcrumbs until they are moist, and set them aside for 15 minutes.
Pour 3 cups of sunflower oil into a pot and heat it to 340 degrees Fahrenheit.
Make several slits on the connective tissue of the pork chop because red meat and fat have different elasticities. The slits will help the pork not to curl up during cooking.
Pound each pork piece with a knife or a meat tenderizer until it flattens the pork pieces.
Sprinkle some kosher salt on the pork generously. Grind some fresh black pepper onto the seasoned pork. Make sure you salt and pepper both sides of the pork chop.
In another bowl, break a large egg and add ½ tablespoon of sunflower oil and whisk the two.
In another bowl, add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose stars.
Coating
Dip the pork in the plain all-purpose flour and then into the eggs.
From the eggs bowl, dip the pork into the breadcrumbs we moistened before.
Frying the Tonkatsu pork
Put the pork into the pot when the oil’s temperature is 340 degrees Fahrenheit and deep fry each side for 1 minute.
After it has become golden brown, remove it from the oil. Do the same with the second piece of pork.
Fry the tonkatsu again for 30 seconds on each side.
Let the tonkatsu rest for 2 minutes in an inverted position on a wire rack. Cut the tonkatsu pieces into 4-5 long strings and add them to the plate of cabbage that we made before.
Your Tonkatsu pork is ready to be served.
